Your Silicon Valley Weekend: July 10–12 — Summer Concerts, Farmers Markets & Outdoor Festivals

Chris Tucker on a vineyard hillside Saturday, Maren Morris Sunday, Hilary Duff at Shoreline, movie night on the Vasona lawn, and one of the Bay Area’s great cultural festivals in Japantown — this is a legitimately loaded weekend. Every event below is confirmed, with days, times, and where to park yourself. No homework required.

Saratoga: Star Power at The Mountain Winery

The hillside amphitheater above Saratoga owns the weekend. Saturday night it’s comedian Chris Tucker at 8 PM; Sunday, Maren Morris brings the dreamGIRL tour at 7:30 PM — both under the string lights with the whole Valley glittering below. The local play: dinner in Saratoga Village on Big Basin Way before the show, then the five-minute drive up Pierce Road. Make a full Saratoga Saturday of it — the Saratoga Farmers’ Market runs 9 AM–1 PM at West Valley College (Fruitvale & Career Way), and Hakone Estate & Gardens, one of the oldest Japanese gardens in the Americas, is open 11 AM–5 PM both weekend days.

Los Gatos: Movie Night on the Vasona Lawn

Friday night, Vasona Lake County Park hosts Movie Night in the Park: “Bumblebee” — block party at 6 PM, film at dusk around 8 PM, and it costs nothing beyond the $6 vehicle parking. Bring low chairs and layers; the lake breeze turns cool after sunset. Through the weekend, the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad and carousel at neighboring Oak Meadow Park run 10:30 AM–4:30 PM Saturday and Sunday — still the best $5-ish memory in town for the under-10 crowd. Sunday morning, the Los Gatos Farmers’ Market fills Town Plaza at Main & N. Santa Cruz, 9 AM–1 PM, with the downtown patios at full summer strength right beside it.

Campbell: Sunday Morning, Done Right

Campbell’s Sunday ritual is the Downtown Campbell Farmers’ Market, 9 AM–1 PM on E. Campbell Avenue between Central and 3rd — mid-July is peak season, so expect the stone fruit and heirloom tomatoes at their absolute best. Go early, then claim a patio table downtown for brunch. History buffs can tour the 1925 Ainsley House (open Friday–Sunday, 11 AM–3 PM, $10 adults), and the Campbell Community Center hosts Relay for Life this weekend — the American Cancer Society’s community walk, free to come out and support. One save-the-date: next Saturday, July 18, is Free Museum Day at both the Historical Museum and Ainsley House.

Worth the Short Drive: Obon in Japantown & Hilary Duff at Shoreline

Two big ones just outside the neighborhood. First, Saturday at 7 PM, Hilary Duff brings the Lucky Me Tour to Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View — her first tour in years, and the millennial-nostalgia event of the summer. Second, fifteen minutes from all three towns, Japantown’s Obon Festival — one of the largest in California, running for more than a century — takes over 5th Street between Taylor and Empire. Saturday noon–10 PM and Sunday noon–9 PM: food booths, game alley on Jackson Street, a beer garden, San Jose Taiko Saturday afternoon around 4:30, and the evening Bon Odori street dancing, where everyone — first-timers very much included — is invited into the circle. There’s a free shuttle from the county lot at N. 1st and Hedding. Families with theater kids should also know Disney’s Newsies opens this weekend at the Montgomery Theater downtown (Fri 7 PM, Sat 2 & 7 PM, Sun 1 & 6 PM), performed by CMT’s standout 10–14-year-old cast.

One Perfect Saturday

Saratoga Farmers’ Market at 9. Hakone’s gardens before the heat. Japantown by 4 for taiko, food-booth dinner, and a round of Bon Odori. Then up the hill for Chris Tucker at 8, with the Valley lights coming on below. That is a top-one-percent summer Saturday, and the whole thing happens within 20 minutes of home.
