Your Silicon Valley Weekend, August 28–30: GalaxyCon Downtown, Pride in San Jose, and Diana Ross on the Saratoga Hillside

This is the last full weekend of August, and it is one of the busiest on the valley calendar. Downtown San Jose is hosting two major events at once, both amphitheaters have shows, and the Sunday market circuit is at peak season. If you have been meaning to do something, this is the weekend.

All Weekend: GalaxyCon Takes Over Downtown San Jose

GalaxyCon San Jose, San Jose McEnery Convention Center — Friday through Sunday, August 28–30. Published hours are Friday 2–8 PM, Saturday 10 AM–8 PM, and Sunday 10 AM–6 PM.

Fan convention in the full sense: celebrity panels and photo ops, an enormous vendor floor, artist alley, gaming, and a cosplay competition. If you have kids in the eight-to-eighteen range this is likely the single highest-value weekend outing in the valley, and it is walkable from the light rail if you would rather not fight the garage situation.

Practical note: downtown parking on a convention weekend is a genuine problem, and this weekend it is a convention weekend plus a festival weekend. Take VTA or Caltrain in if you can, and if you do drive, go early and park once.

Saturday and Sunday: Silicon Valley Pride in Downtown San Jose

Silicon Valley Pride, downtown San Jose — Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30. This year’s theme is “Flourish & Bloom.”

It runs across two days, and the two days are different events. Saturday night is the Night Festival, 6:00 to 11:00 PM at Plaza de César Chávez — stages, food, and a vendor village in the park after the heat breaks. Sunday is the parade and the day festival: the parade steps off at 10:30 AM at Julian and Market and runs until about noon, and the Day Festival follows from 12:00 to 6:00 PM.

If you are bringing family, Sunday is the day — the daytime programming includes dedicated family and children’s content. Bring water either way; late August in downtown San Jose runs hot and the plaza has limited shade.

Friday and Saturday: Big Nights at Shoreline

Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View.

• Friday, August 28, 7:00 PM — 5 Seconds of Summer, with The Band Camino. Their touring production, and a good one for a family with teenagers.
• Saturday, August 29, 7:00 PM — A Great Night in Hip Hop: Nas and The Roots, with De La Soul. This is the show of the weekend for a certain audience, and The Roots as a live band is worth the ticket on its own.

Shoreline logistics have not changed: get there early, expect a slow exit onto Amphitheatre Parkway, and bring a layer because the bay-side breeze after sunset is real even in August.

All Weekend: Three Shows on the Saratoga Hillside

The Mountain Winery, Saratoga closes out August with three consecutive nights, all at 7:30 PM:

• Friday, August 28 — Fia.
• Saturday, August 29 — the I Love The 90’s tour, featuring Vanilla Ice. Exactly what it sounds like, and a genuinely fun crowd.
• Sunday, August 30 — Diana Ross. The one to circle. A legacy artist in a roughly 1,700-seat hillside amphitheater with the whole valley below you is about as good as live music gets in Northern California.

If you have never done a Mountain Winery show: arrive early enough for a glass on the terrace before the set. That hour is half the reason people go. The drive up Pierce Road slows badly once the lot starts filling, so budget more time than the map suggests, and bring a layer — the hillside cools fast after sundown.

Saturday and Sunday Mornings: Peak Market Season

Late August is the best week of the year for the valley’s markets. Stone fruit, tomatoes, melons, corn, and the first of the early apples are all overlapping right now, and it does not last.

• Sunnyvale Farmers Market — Saturday morning downtown near Murphy Avenue. The largest of the Saturday markets and an easy add-on to breakfast.
• Santa Clara Farmers Market — Saturday morning, and noticeably less crowded than Sunnyvale.
• Campbell Farmers Market — Sunday morning on Campbell Avenue, in one of the better downtown settings in the valley for it.
• Los Gatos Farmers Market — Sunday morning at the Town Plaza, easily combined with a walk on the Creek Trail.

Confirm current hours on each market’s own site before you go — late-summer schedules occasionally shift.

One Thing That Is Not Happening

Worth saying out loud so nobody packs a blanket for nothing: Los Gatos Music in the Park has finished its 2026 season. The final Sunday was August 23. The free Civic Center lawn series returns next summer.

If You Want the Quiet Version

Not every late-August weekend needs a crowd. The valley’s best low-key options right now:

• Vasona Lake County Park and the Los Gatos Creek Trail — late-summer evening light on the water is the best it gets all year.
• Rancho San Antonio, above Cupertino — go early, the lot fills by mid-morning on weekends.
• Fremont Older Open Space, above Saratoga — the valley view without the drive to the coast.
• Shoreline Lake in Mountain View — sailing, paddleboards, and a walkable loop, and it is quiet on a Sunday morning before the amphitheater crowd arrives.

What This Weekend Says About Where You Live

Every one of these guides comes back to the same underlying point, because buyers consistently underweight it: proximity to this is a real and measurable component of value in Silicon Valley.

Two of the valley’s best venues sit inside residential cities — the Mountain Winery above Saratoga and Shoreline inside Mountain View. Walkability to a downtown like Los Gatos, Campbell, or Sunnyvale is priced into this market, and that premium has held through cycles better than nearly any other feature buyers pay for.

A home ten minutes from a Sunday market and twenty from a hillside amphitheater lives differently than one that requires a freeway for everything. If weekends like this are why you want a particular part of the valley, that belongs in the conversation alongside price, school assignment, and commute.
