The Anchor: Los Gatos Art & Wine Festival
The Los Gatos Art & Wine Festival takes over the Civic Center Lawn at 110 E. Main Street on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27, both days 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Admission is free. Details at losgatosfiesta.com.
If you have never done this one: it is the West Valley at its most pleasant. Artist booths spread across the lawn, wine and beer, food, live music, and — the actual reason to go — you are standing in the middle of downtown Los Gatos, which means the festival is only half of the afternoon. North Santa Cruz Avenue is right there. So is the Los Gatos Creek Trail if the kids need to burn something off.
Parking advice from someone who has learned the hard way: the Civic Center and downtown lots fill by late morning Saturday. The garage behind the Town Plaza and the streets east of Main are your better bet, or park at the Vasona Lake end of the Creek Trail and walk in. Sunday is noticeably calmer than Saturday.

Saturday Morning: Harvest History Festival, Mountain View
A short, genuinely charming outing at Heritage Park on Saturday, September 26 from 9 a.m. to noon. The City of Mountain View runs it around the Rengstorff-era agricultural history of the area — the Valley of Heart’s Delight before it was Silicon Valley. Free.
Three hours, over before lunch, and it stacks perfectly with Los Gatos in the afternoon if you do not mind the drive. If you have elementary-age kids, this is the better half of the day.
Worth the Drive
- Pacific Coast Fog Fest, Pacifica — Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Palmetto Avenue. Pacifica’s biggest weekend: a parade, the Fog Jog, a Family Fun Fest, live music, and over 200 arts and crafts vendors. Free. Go for the day, stay for the coast.
- September Arts & Culture Fest, San Mateo — Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on B Street. Live mural painting competitions, handcrafted wares, a poetry open mic, and performances from local musicians and community groups. Free.
The Low-Key Version
Late September is when this valley is objectively at its best and the smartest thing you can do with a Sunday is not fight a crowd for it. The Saturday farmers markets in Campbell, Mountain View, Los Altos and downtown Palo Alto are deep in the late-harvest window. Vasona Lake and Rancho San Antonio are perfect right now. Sunset is early enough that an evening walk actually feels like fall.
And if you are house-watching: this is the last genuinely strong open-house weekend of the quarter. Everything that came on after Labor Day is now four to six weeks old, which is exactly when sellers start to get realistic. If you have been waiting for a little negotiating room, late September and early October is where it shows up.
